Court Support Service
The Alice Springs Women’s Shelter (ASWS) provides court support services through our Court Support Officer, to all women who have experienced or continue to experience domestic violence.
The Court Support Officer assists women primarily in civil law matters such as when making an application to the court to obtain a Domestic Violence Order. However, assistance is also provided in criminal law cases for instance when a woman is called on as a witness to give evidence about a past domestic violence incident.
The court process can be very complex and is often difficult to negotiate alone. The Court Support Officer is able to talk you through the court process and assist you in gaining legal advice. They can attend appointments with legal services with you and also attend court with you.
Please note the Court Support Officer is not a lawyer. However, she is able to refer you onto a legal service and support you during this process.
Who can it help?
The Court Support Officer provides ongoing assistance to any woman who has been a victim or survivor of domestic violence.
This service is only available to women whose matters are being heard in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court.
This service is not available to women who are defendants.
How do I access this service?
Our Court Support Officer is based at out Outreach office in Alice Springs and can be contacted from Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm on (08) 8953 7648.
