The emergency accommodation service is a 30 bed crisis accommodation service for women and children under immediate threat from domestic and family violence.
There are staff members on site 24 hours a day and the service accepts referrals 24 hours , 7 days a week.
Whilst being accomodated women are provided with a range of services including case management emergency relief and referral to other services. Where a woman has children with her the children are treated as individual clients with their own specific support plan as well as a whole family approach.
The major focus of all support is to maximise a women and her childrens safety. We do this by developing an individualised safety plan that is focussed on each woman's specific circumstances. A safety plan may include a range of measures ranging from obtaining a restraining order, relocating interstate or ensuring women have credit on their mobile phone.
As ASWS can only provide short term accommodation the focus of the service is to provide safe space, focussing on a period of respite and consolidation prior to women deciding their next steps. Due to the ongoing shortage of affordable housing in Alice Springs exit plans focus on immediate safety of women and children rather than secure long term accommodation.
